Description

Paradise Lost Caves are a cave system located in Kiambu CountyKenya. They were discovered officially by Joseph Mbai and some of his farmhands on his property in 1996. A National Museums of Kenya expedition uncovered human remains dated back 8000-12000 years, along with obsidian artifacts from the Later Stone Age. The caves are outfitted with electric lighting for tours that pass through, but can be difficult to traverse due to caves becoming very narrow at points. The caves have the largest underground lake ever found so far, even though it is not as big as those from certain cave systems in the US and Mexico. Paradise Lost Caves consist of numerous chambers. The walls of the cave are full of crystals, stalactites and stalagmites, as well as fossils from fishes who once lived there millions of years ago.In 2005 Paradise Lost was claimed for a short time by a wealthy foreign man who said that Paradise Lost Caves were in fact Paradise Regained. He was later taken to court and the title went back to Joseph Mbai’s family, who had their land registered with all Paradise Lost caves on it.

The caves are now used as a tourist attraction for people from around the world. Paradise Lost is one of Kenya ‘s biggest tourist attractions. Paradise Lost Caves are also one of the key sources for tourism income in Kenya , with Paradise Lost also acting as a major attraction for wildlife safaris, which will lead tourists to Paradise Lost Caves.

This is because Paradise Lost Caves are not far-removed from Nairobi National Park or some other parks and reserves, such as the Maasai Mara National Reserve . Paradise Lost Caves are also near Mt. Kenya and Aberdare National Park , further adding to Paradise Lost’s attractiveness to wildlife safaris.

Paradise Lost Caves have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and many people from around the world visit it every day to explore its sheer beauty. Paradise Lost consists of a vast system of tunnels that goes deep into the earth, with some passages going down as far as two hundred feet underground.

Paradise Lost Caves contain a vast network of caves and it is believed that there are still many chambers to be found beneath the already discovered ones.
