Banana hill, Kiambu, 10 kilometers from the CBD is a haven for the contemporary African art work. The art gallery was started in 1982 as an art studio by a group of 12 artists who partnered to deliver their varied talents. The number of artist presenting their art work to the studio grew exponentially to 38 in the succeeding years rendering the space too small to incorporate the large numbers. It was later converted into a public museum thereby changing its name to banana hill art gallery. The gallery showcases the vibrancy of contemporary art of over 70 artists from across the African continent with a strong base of establishment in the east Africa region. Art works ranges from animal and birds sculptures, paintings, fish collection, baskets, insects, reptiles, souvenirs and gifts etc. the gallery does an art exhibition every two weeks showcasing the best art on offer through embassies in Kenya and their website. The place also has an endowment of great curators who are well knowledgeable in art work. It can be challenging browsing through the art works as a result of the large number of collections which has no order of arrangement.
